1950

1959

In 1959, the company was acquired by Rolf Mießner - still under the name of Leim-Chemie - and from then on, it was shaped by his pioneering spirit. In the beginning, the company primarily produced glues for the furniture industry, but close contact with regional painters opened up a whole new range of possibilities.

1960

1960

The groundbreaking product - the synthetic resin binder CHEMIECOLL - gave painters a perfect foundation for their own "binder paints". That marked the entry into the market we cater to today.

1963

Wood fan: today's Diffundin brand is launched under the name "Die schützende Hand" ("The protecting hand"). This wood protection product guarantees excellent diffusion and adapts to the natural movements of the wood. 

Invention of the plastic oval bucket within the framework of a specialist consultant conference: The bucket is optimally adapted for use with the paint roller, simplifies work and became the benchmark for all German paint manufacturers. 

1966

The company has been run under the ALLIGATOR brand since 1966. The name was primarily chosen on the basis of mica scale pigments, which were used in the products at that time and were reminiscent of the skin of an alligator in their appearance.

1969

Pioneering achievement: first automatic large batch production in Germany with raw material storage in silos.

1970

1973

Cementless composite thermal insulation system: the first German cementless ETICS system with test certificate. Organic reinforcing compounds provide the technically best and most durable solution with optimum durability. 

1980

1985

New positioning "ALLIGATOR for painters": By departing from mass business and turning to exclusive production for the painting trade and concentrating on specialist wholesalers. 

1990

1993

Major fire at the Enger plant. On 24/25 August, approx. 3900 m² of production area were destroyed. The cause of the fire: A short circuit in the forklift loading station. 

1994

Expansion of the product range: The Kieselit, Miropan and Sichelit brands were taken over by Henkel and were henceforth included in the ALLIGATOR range. 

1995/1996

Reconstruction of the Enger plant: Application technology, laboratory and administration are expanded after the fire. 
Certification for quality and environmental management: ALLIGATOR is the very first of the leading manufacturers of paint and plaster products to be honoured with an award for its environmental management. 

1997

Expansion: Grand opening of the rebuilt and expanded Enger production plant and foundation of a joint venture with a paint plant in China.

2000

2000

Repositioning: "ALLIGATOR for painters" becomes "ALLIGATOR" with the cooperative integration of the finishing trades as a new target group. 

2003

After several years of cooperation with DAW, ALLIGATOR, as an independent brand with its own location and profile, becomes a 100% subsidiary of the group.

Expansion of the training facilities: Opening of the technical centre for craftsmen in Enger. 

2013

Relaunch of the ALLIGATOR logo: first trade fair appearance with a new logo at FARBE, AUSBAU & FASSADE in Cologne.

2016

50 years of Kieselite - the brand celebrates its anniversary!

New corporate strategy for a strong industry - the ALLIGATOR principle with its five core messages: Instinctive. Powerful. Structured. Uncompromising. Reliable. 

2018

Extensive renovation work is being carried out in and on the ALLIGATOR FARBWERKE building.

2019

60 years of ALLIGATOR - we are celebrating an anniversary under the motto "Leaving traces"!
